Where things stand today
CADialogue does not currently display third-party advertising. We are preparing to work with Google Ad Manager, and this policy sets out the standards that will apply from the moment advertising goes live. Publishing the rules first seemed the right order to do it in.
Advertising and editorial are separate
This is the part that matters most, so it goes first:
- Advertisers have no influence over what CADialogue covers, how it is covered, or when it is published.
- No advertiser sees an article before publication, and none can require a change to one or its removal afterwards.
- Our journalists do not know, and are not told, which companies are advertising when they choose what to write about.
- Buying advertising does not buy coverage, a favourable angle, or protection from critical reporting. An advertiser that expects otherwise is not one we will take money from.
The same independence is described from the editorial side in our Editorial Policy.
What advertising looks like on this site
When it runs, display advertising will follow these rules:
- Every advertising unit is labelled “Advertisement”, above the unit, before it loads.
- Advertising is visually distinct from editorial content. It does not use our article typography, our headline styling or our card layouts.
- An advertisement is never designed to look like a navigation control, a download or play button, a system notification, or a link to another article on this site.
- Advertising does not cover article text, obscure the navigation, or interrupt reading with an interstitial that must be dismissed before the page can be read.
- Ad slots reserve their space before a creative loads, so nothing on the page moves under your finger and nothing is clicked by accident.
- On mobile, any anchored unit is dismissible and leaves the end of the article reachable.
- Advertising density is limited so that editorial content remains the substance of the page. A short news brief carries fewer units than a long explainer, not the same number.
An advertisement is not an endorsement
The presence of an advertisement on CADialogue does not mean we have vetted, recommend or endorse the advertiser, its products, its returns or its claims. Most display advertising is served programmatically, which means specific advertisements are selected automatically and are not individually reviewed by us before they appear.
Please apply your own judgement to advertised financial products, and read our Disclaimer.
What we will not accept
We will refuse or remove advertising that:
- promises guaranteed or assured returns on an investment;
- promotes an unregistered investment scheme, an unlicensed adviser, or a “tips” or signal service;
- promotes gambling, betting, real-money gaming or lotteries;
- is misleading about the cost, risk, terms or regulatory status of a financial product;
- impersonates CADialogue, a regulator, a bank or a government body;
- carries malware, forced redirects, auto-playing audio, or anything that takes over the page;
- is adult content, or promotes tobacco, illegal products or services;
- targets or exploits vulnerable readers.
If you see an advertisement on CADialogue that breaches this list, please tell us through the contact page with a screenshot and the page you saw it on. We will act on it.
Sponsored content
Where we publish content paid for by a third party, it is labelled clearly at the top of the item — “Sponsored”, “Partner content” or “Advertisement feature” — in a way that is legible before you begin reading, and it is not written by the newsroom in the newsroom’s voice. Sponsored items are excluded from our news feeds and category listings where doing so would otherwise present them as editorial.
Affiliate links
CADialogue does not currently operate an affiliate marketing programme. If we introduce one, any article containing an affiliate link will disclose that relationship within the article itself, and the presence of a commission will not determine which products we write about or how we assess them.
Privacy and advertising data
Advertising involves data. How that works, what Google and its partners may use, and how you control it is set out in our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy. Where consent is required, no advertising cookie or identifier is set before it is given, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the “Privacy & Cookie Settings” link in our footer.
